Skilled attorney, but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Matthew Hjortsberg of Shulman Rogers to help resolve a significant payment dispute on a commercial renovation project in Potomac. His deep experience in construction law was immediately apparent. He clearly understood the complexities of multi-party negotiations and was able to dissect the contractual issues that had stalled the project. His recognition as a 'Lawyer of the Year' in this field is well-earned, and his nearly three decades of practice gave me confidence in his strategic advice. However, my experience was mixed. While the ultimate outcome was satisfactory, there were periods where communication lagged. Responses to emails sometimes took several days, and updates on case progress felt reactive rather than proactive. For a client navigating a stressful 'black swan event' as he describes, more consistent touchpoints would have been valuable. His legal acumen is solid, but the client service experience felt just adequate. I would recommend him for his expertise, but with the caveat to set clear expectations regarding communication timelines from the outset.
