Competent handling of our nonprofit's compliance review

Our organization retained Mary Margaret Petrinjak at Burch, Porter & Johnson to assist with a state-level compliance review for our charitable operations. Her background in Nonprofit / Charities Law was evident, and her recognition in that area gave us confidence. She was thorough in her analysis of our bylaws and fundraising documentation, and her advice on the specific regulatory questions was sound and ultimately effective. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. Communication, while professional, wasn't as proactive as we had hoped; we often had to follow up for status updates, and there were noticeable delays in receiving drafted correspondence. For straightforward legal matters, her competence in general practice, particularly for nonprofits, is clear. Yet, for clients who prioritize consistent, anticipatory communication and a more collaborative partnership, expectations may need to be managed. She resolved our immediate issue, but the process lacked the seamless engagement we anticipated from an attorney with her noted recognitions.
