Competent corporate attorney, but communication could improve

I engaged Marshall Cox at Burch, Porter & Johnson to assist with the acquisition of a small commercial property in Memphis. His background from Vanderbilt and recognition in real estate and corporate law were key factors in our selection. He was undoubtedly knowledgeable; the contract work was thorough and he identified several potential title issues that saved us future headaches. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. There were periods where responses to emails took several days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. While his expertise in mergers and acquisitions is clear, I sometimes felt I had to prompt for updates rather than receiving proactive communication. For straightforward, complex legal work, he is capable. Just be prepared to manage your expectations regarding client communication and timeline management.
