Competent on the legal work, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged Margaret Sampson at McDermott Will & Schulte for guidance on a complex licensing agreement related to a proprietary medical device my small startup developed. Her background in biotechnology and life sciences was immediately apparent; she understood the technical nuances of the field, which was crucial. Her 13 years of experience and the recognition she's received in this specific practice area gave me confidence in her legal analysis of the contract's IP clauses. The final work product was solid and protected our interests. However, the process felt somewhat disjointed. Response times to emails were occasionally longer than expected, sometimes stretching to several business days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. While she was thorough in our scheduled meetings, I sometimes felt I had to proactively seek updates rather than receiving them automatically. For straightforward legal expertise in the biotech sector, she is certainly knowledgeable, but managing client expectations and communication flow could be more consistent.
