Competent handling of a complex estate matter

I engaged Lynne O'Brien at Norton Rose Fulbright to assist with a complicated estate administration involving a family business and cross-border assets. Her recognized expertise in Trusts and Estates was evident; she was thorough in her analysis of the corporate holdings and provided clear, technically sound advice on the probate process. The work product itself was solid and reflected her background in both estates and commercial litigation, which was necessary for our situation. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While Lynne is clearly knowledgeable, communication was not always as proactive as I would have preferred. There were periods of several days where updates were not forthcoming unless I initiated contact, which added to my stress during an already difficult time. Additionally, some of the correspondence from her office felt templated, lacking a personal touch. For straightforward legal matters, her competence is not in question, and the firm's reputation is strong. My expectations for a more responsive and client-centered experience, given the firm's stature, were only partially met. She capably resolved the core legal issues, but the overall service felt more transactional than collaborative.
