Competent on the deal, but communication could be better

KJ Pedersen at Kirkland & Ellis handled the legal due diligence for our mid-sized tech company's acquisition by a private equity firm. His technical knowledge was evident, particularly in navigating the corporate governance and compliance aspects, which aligns with his recognized expertise. He clearly understood the leveraged buyout mechanics and the specific corporate law considerations for Texas. For the core legal work, especially the data room review and drafting certain reps and warranties, his Stanford-honed skills were solid and reliable. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. As a relatively junior attorney with two years of experience, he was sometimes difficult to reach directly, with updates often filtered through more senior associates, leading to occasional delays in getting straightforward questions answered. While the final outcome was successful and his analysis was sound, the client service aspect felt more like a cog in a large firm machine rather than a dedicated advisor. He's clearly intelligent and knows his M&A law, but for the premium associated with his firm, I expected more proactive communication and a slightly more engaged partnership throughout the several-month process.
