Competent and recognized, but communication could be improved

I hired Kevin Sasse at Dunn Carney to handle a dispute with a former business partner over a breached supply agreement. His background in commercial litigation, including the recognition from Best Lawyers, was a primary reason for my choice. Kevin clearly knows his way around a contract and the courtroom. He provided a solid, pragmatic assessment of our case and ultimately secured a reasonable settlement. However, my experience was mixed. While his legal analysis was sound, I often felt out of the loop. Responses to emails could take several days, and updates weren't always proactive. There were a few instances where I had to follow up multiple times to get clarity on next steps. For the complexity and value of my case, the billing felt appropriate, but the client service aspect felt just adequate. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney in Portland's legal community, especially for insurance and commercial matters, but managing client expectations and communication seems to be an area for growth. You'll get competent representation, but be prepared to be your own project manager at times.
