Competent on FDA regulatory matters, but communication could improve

I engaged Kellie Combs at Ropes & Gray for guidance on a complex FDA regulatory strategy for a new medical device my company is developing. Her deep knowledge in FDA law and her recognition in biotechnology practice were immediately apparent. She provided a thorough analysis of the pre-submission pathway and identified several potential pitfalls we had overlooked, which was invaluable. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. There were often significant delays in receiving responses to follow-up emails, sometimes stretching to a week, which created anxiety during tight deadlines. While her legal advice was technically sound and she clearly has the 18 years of experience her profile suggests, the client management aspect felt somewhat lacking. The billing was as expected for a firm of this caliber. Ultimately, we achieved our regulatory goal, but the process felt more reactive than collaborative. She is undoubtedly a skilled attorney in her field, but for clients who prioritize frequent and proactive communication, there may be better fits.
