Competent for structured finance, but communication could improve

I engaged Mr. Sato of Atsumi & Sakai for advice on a cross-border equipment leasing transaction that had some complex structuring elements. His background in structured finance law from his time in Japan was evident, and he clearly understood the technical nuances. The work product was solid and he is undoubtedly knowledgeable, as his recognition in The Best Lawyers suggests. However, coordinating across the time zone to Albuquerque was sometimes challenging, and responses to follow-up emails were not as prompt as I would have liked. For straightforward legal analysis, he is capable, but managing client expectations on timelines could be better. A good attorney, but the service experience was just adequate.
