Competent with trusts but communication could improve

I engaged Katherine Szymanski at Varnum to assist with a contested will and trust administration after my father's passing. Her recognition in Trusts and Estates and Litigation in that area by Best Lawyers was a primary reason for my choice, and her technical knowledge of Michigan probate law was evident. She successfully navigated the dispute with my sibling, achieving a fair settlement. However, my experience was mixed. While her legal work was solid, I often found communication to be lacking. Responses to emails could take several days, and explanations of complex legal steps sometimes felt rushed, leaving me to seek clarification. For straightforward legal matters, her expertise from Valparaiso University is clear, but managing client expectations and proactive updates were areas I found just adequate. The outcome was positive, but the process required more patience than I anticipated.
