Competent on the deal, but communication could improve

We engaged Kat Murphy at Kirkland & Ellis to assist with the acquisition of a small, local logistics company. Her technical knowledge in M&A was evident; she was thorough with the due diligence process and the final purchase agreement was solid. It's clear why she's recognized in that practice area. However, our experience was mixed. While Kat herself was sharp when we had her attention, there were often significant delays in receiving responses to our emails, sometimes stretching several business days. We were frequently passed to more junior associates for routine updates, which sometimes led to confusion. For a firm of this caliber, we expected more proactive communication and a clearer point-person structure throughout the engagement. The legal work product was ultimately satisfactory and the deal closed, but the process felt more reactive than we had hoped. She is undoubtedly a capable attorney with a strong foundation from her Syracuse J.D., but the client service experience didn't fully match the firm's reputation or her recognized expertise in corporate and banking law.
