Adequate representation for a commercial lease negotiation

I engaged Kal Steinberg of KMK to represent my small business in negotiating a commercial lease for a new retail space in Cincinnati. There is no question about his deep expertise in real estate law, and his three decades of experience, particularly in transactional matters, were evident. He efficiently identified several critical issues in the landlord's initial draft, especially concerning assignment clauses and CAM expenses, which aligned with his recognized background in real estate and finance law. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional in nature. Communication was not as proactive as I had hoped; responses to my emails often took several business days, and I sometimes felt I had to follow up to move things along. While the final lease was solid and protected our interests, the process lacked the personal touch and regular updates I expected from an attorney of his stature and recognition, such as his recent Lawyer of the Year award. For a straightforward matter, his competence is sufficient, but manage your expectations regarding client service and accessibility.
