Competent on the deal, but communication could improve

I engaged Justin Parappally at Stikeman Elliott to assist with a complex asset-based lending facility for my manufacturing business here in Portland. His technical knowledge in the banking and finance space is evident, and his recognition in the asset-based lending field was a primary reason we selected him. The final credit agreement was solid, and he navigated the lender's demands effectively. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. There were periods during the negotiation where we experienced significant delays in receiving updates, requiring multiple follow-ups on our end. While his analysis was always thorough once received, the process lacked the proactive communication I expected for a matter of this importance. His expertise delivered a functionally sound outcome for our financing needs, but the client service aspect felt just adequate. For straightforward, documentation-heavy ABL work, he is a capable attorney, but be prepared to manage the timeline and information flow actively.
