Bio

Julie Paquette is a partner in Fasken’s Real Estate Law group, maintaining a robust practice focused on commercial real estate and franchising. Julie possesses extensive experience acquired over 25+ years of advising clients in connection with the leasing, acquisition, disposition, financing, and development of real property assets as well as providing advice regarding franchise laws. Julie has represented landlords and tenants in commercial leasing transactions, including for office, retail and industrial premises. She has completed two distribution centre build-to-suit lease projects representing the interest of the tenant in those transactions. Julie has drafted, negotiated and implemented purchase and sale agreements as well as sophisticated joint use and maintenance agreements, acting for vendors and purchasers of industrial and commercial properties. Julie’s versatile real estate practice extends across a variety of industries. Her portfolio includes representing a railway company in the acquisition of a railway corridor, the sale of two train stations and the sale of an abandoned corridor. Julie has also acted for financial institutions in connection with secured lending arrangements. She has advised franchisors and franchisees on various franchising issues. Prior to joining Fasken, Julie worked in-house at two large Canadian corporations—experience which she leverages to provide value-added services to clients of the Firm by remaining continuously aware of and sensitive to the operational realities of their business. Julie is committed to promoting and furthering excellence in the real estate law profession. She is a member of the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) Real Estate Lawyers Committee, which works to maintain high standards among real estate lawyers, to enhance understanding of the real estate lawyers’ role and to ensure the future of the real estate bar in Ontario. Julie is fluently bilingual, practicing in both English and French.
