Bio

Josh brings a client-centered approach to his practice, and understands that there is no such thing as a “small case” when someone is the target of a criminal prosecution. He appreciates that some of the toughest battles to be fought are those that occur as a result of being accused of a crime, and that the restrictions and obstacles facing his clients can be far reaching and unanticipated. Josh is passionate about defending his clients, and takes a direct-approach on their behalf—both inside and outside the courtroom. His reputation as a fierce advocate was earned in over ninety jury trials in seven years as a Colorado State Public Defender. Josh was nominated by his peers for Attorney of the Year in 2014.While he is widely regarded for winning acquittals at trial, Josh’s clients particularly admire his interpersonal approach. Josh takes the time to truly understand his clients’ unique circumstances, and recognizes that the role of defense counsel is not limited to legal proceedings. Josh is a skilled negotiator, who brings a practical, focused approach to achieving successful results for his clients, often well before trial. Josh has persuaded numerous law enforcement agencies against filing charges, and has secured countless dismissals even after charges were filed.Josh is experienced in defending an exceptionally wide range of criminal charges, ranging from first-degree murder, felony murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, weapons offenses, kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual assault on a child, burglary, trespass, drug possession and distribution, embezzlement, Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA), fraud, forgery, property theft, aggravated motor vehicle theft, domestic violence, harassment and driving under the influence.Professionally, Josh has facilitated numerous training seminars to criminal defense lawyers across Colorado, on topics ranging from cross-examination, jury selection, and the effective use of persuasion in closing argument.Josh graduated from the University of Colorado Law School, and was selected to compete on the National Mock Trial Team.
