Competent IP counsel, but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Josh Denison at Barnes & Thornburg to handle a trademark opposition proceeding for my small tech startup. His credentials are impressive, and his recognition in Intellectual Property Law by Best Lawyers was a key factor in our selection. His analysis of the substantive legal issues was sharp. He clearly understood the nuances of the Lanham Act and drafted a solid initial response. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While Josh was always professional, there were periods of several days where we received no updates, leaving us to wonder about the status. When we did connect, his advice was valuable, but we sometimes felt we had to prompt for the next steps rather than receiving proactive guidance. For straightforward IP matters, his technical competence is evident. For clients who may need more hand-holding or frequent reassurance, setting very clear communication expectations upfront would be advisable. He successfully resolved our matter, but the process felt more efficient than collaborative.
