I engaged Joseph Gumkowski at Lipsitz Green to assist with the sale of my small, family-owned manufacturing business in Buffalo. His deep experience, particularly the NYU LL.M. in Taxation he earned decades ago, was immediately apparent and provided confidence during the complex tax structuring phase. He is clearly knowledgeable, and his recognition in tax law is well-deserved. The transaction was completed successfully. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. As a long-time practitioner with a selective clientele, his responsiveness was not always prompt; there were periods of several days before receiving replies to emails, which added to my stress during negotiations. While his advice on the intellectual property aspects of the sale was sound, explanations were sometimes delivered in dense, technical language without much simplification. For straightforward, high-stakes business legal work, Mr. Gumkowski is a competent choice. Just be prepared to manage the communication pace proactively and ensure you ask clarifying questions to fully grasp the implications of his counsel.
