Competent on union acquisition issues, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged Joe Gumina and his firm, O'Neil Cannon, for legal counsel during our company's acquisition of a unionized manufacturing facility in the Milwaukee area. His background in union issues regarding acquisitions was the primary reason for our selection, and his nearly a decade of experience in labor and employment law was evident. He provided technically sound advice on navigating the complexities of the existing collective bargaining agreement and the obligations under Wisconsin law. His recognition in management-side labor and employment litigation is well-deserved. However, the experience was mixed. While the legal work was solid, we sometimes experienced significant delays in receiving responses to emails, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. His explanations, when we did connect, were clear, but we often had to follow up to get updates. For straightforward union-related acquisition matters, he is a capable attorney, but be prepared to manage the communication flow proactively. The outcome was satisfactory, but the process felt more reactive than we had hoped.
