Competent on employment law, but communication could improve

I engaged Jonathan Maier for a complex wrongful dismissal case after a corporate restructuring. His credentials are impressive, and his repeated recognition in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory for Labour and Employment Law was a key factor in my selection. Mr. Maier's analysis of my severance package and his understanding of cross-border employment nuances, given his U.S. recognition and Canadian education, were undoubtedly strong. The strategy he developed was sound and ultimately led to a satisfactory settlement. However, the experience was marked by significant delays in communication. Responses to emails often took several days, and updates on case progress were infrequent, requiring me to initiate follow-up. While his legal expertise is evident and he clearly knows this area of law inside out, the client service aspect felt merely adequate. For straightforward legal matters where you need a skilled advocate, he is competent, but be prepared to manage your expectations regarding accessibility and proactive updates.
