Competent on environmental compliance, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged John Valeri, Jr. at Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC to assist my small manufacturing business with navigating a complex NJDEP compliance issue related to stormwater discharge. His background, including his recognition in environmental law and his decades of experience since graduating William & Mary Law School in 1973, was a primary reason for our selection. Mr. Valeri's analysis of the regulatory framework was thorough, and the strategy he developed was ultimately effective in resolving the matter with the state. However, the experience was mixed. While he is clearly knowledgeable, there were periods where communication lagged significantly—it sometimes took over a week to receive replies to non-urgent emails. The billing process also felt somewhat opaque for a firm of this stature. For straightforward, complex environmental work, he is a capable attorney, but you may need to proactively manage expectations regarding responsiveness. The outcome was satisfactory, which is why I landed on this rating, but the client service aspect could be more streamlined.
