Competent on the case, but communication could improve

I engaged John Sullivan at Winston & Strawn for a complex contract dispute that was escalating toward litigation. His background in commercial litigation was evident; he quickly grasped the technical details of our supplier agreement and provided a solid strategic assessment. His recognition in that field by Best Lawyers is well-founded based on the legal acumen he displayed. The work product on our initial filings was thorough and precise. However, the experience was marked by inconsistent communication. There were periods of several days where our emails went unanswered, and getting updates sometimes required multiple follow-ups from our side. While his junior associate was more responsive, we expected more direct and timely contact from the lead attorney on matters of significance. For the substantive legal work, particularly in the early analytical and drafting phases, John was definitely capable. The outcome for our preliminary injunction was favorable. Yet, for clients who prioritize clear, proactive communication as part of the service, there is room for improvement. He is a knowledgeable attorney, but managing client expectations on responsiveness would elevate the experience.
