Competent on energy matters, but communication was inconsistent

I hired John Troutman at Liskow & Lewis for assistance with a contract dispute involving a mineral rights lease on family property near Columbus. His recognition in Energy Law by Best Lawyers was a primary factor in my decision, and his technical knowledge of Louisiana's energy regulations was evident. He successfully navigated the specific clauses related to royalty payments and surface use, achieving a reasonable settlement. However, the experience was mixed. While his substantive advice was sound, there were noticeable delays in receiving responses to emails, sometimes stretching over a week, which added to my stress during negotiations. Furthermore, some of the procedural explanations felt rushed, leaving me to seek clarification from his paralegal. For a straightforward energy contract issue, his expertise is adequate and he knows the Lafayette-area landscape well. But if you require frequent updates or detailed hand-holding throughout the process, you may need to set very clear expectations from the outset. He is a capable attorney, but the client service aspect didn't fully match the professional accolades.
