I engaged John P. Boyd of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd to assist my small manufacturing business with a state-level environmental compliance review after a notice from DHEC. Mr. Boyd's recognized expertise in Environmental Law, including his recent award recognition, was a primary factor in our selection. His analysis of our wastewater discharge permits was thorough, and he provided clear, actionable steps to bring us into compliance, which we appreciated. His foundational knowledge from his years at USC Law School was evident. However, the experience was mixed regarding client management. There were periods of several days where our emails went unanswered, requiring follow-up calls to his office in Detroit. While the legal work product was sound, the process felt less collaborative than I had hoped; updates were often reactive rather than proactive. For straightforward regulatory matters, he is certainly capable, but if you require frequent touchpoints, you may need to set very clear expectations upfront. The outcome was satisfactory, but the path to get there had some frustrations.
