We hired John Ahlers to help resolve a significant payment dispute with a subcontractor on a commercial tenant improvement project in Seattle. His deep experience in construction law, particularly his focus on dispute resolution since 1983, was immediately apparent. He provided a thorough analysis of our contract and the relevant lien laws, and his advice on strategy was sound. Ultimately, we reached a settlement that protected our interests. However, the experience felt uneven. While John himself is clearly an expert, we sometimes experienced delays in receiving responses to emails, and updates often had to be prompted by us. For a firm he founded, we expected a slightly more streamlined client experience. His knowledge of the complexities in construction, from smaller projects to the large-scale work he references, is undeniable. He is competent and gets results, but managing client expectations and communication proactively could be improved. He’s a solid attorney for construction matters, just be prepared to follow up.
