Competent construction law attorney, but communication could improve

I engaged John Chiocca at Cole, Scott & Kissane to handle a dispute with a general contractor over significant cost overruns and delays on a commercial renovation project in West Palm Beach. His background in construction law and litigation, including the recognition from Best Lawyers, was evident in his grasp of the technical details and contract language. He provided a solid, well-reasoned strategy for our case. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal work itself was competent, I often found the communication to be less than proactive. There were stretches where I had to follow up multiple times for updates, and responses to emails could take several days, which added to the stress of the situation. The billing was clear, but at times I questioned whether some of the internal coordination reflected in the statements was entirely efficient. Ultimately, the matter was resolved satisfactorily, largely due to the strength of his legal arguments regarding breach of contract and the implied warranty of fitness. He knows this area of law inside and out. For someone who needs a technically skilled attorney and is prepared to manage the client communication aspect actively, Mr. Chiocca is a capable choice. For those expecting high-touch, frequent updates, you might find the experience merely adequate, as I did.
