Competent franchise law guidance, but communication could improve

I engaged Joëlle Boisvert and the team at Gowling WLG in Philadelphia to assist with a complex franchise renewal and territory negotiation. With her 13 years of experience and specific recognition in corporate and commercial litigation, I was confident in her technical expertise, and that proved true. Her analysis of our franchise agreement was thorough, and she clearly understood the nuances of the franchisor-franchisee dynamic. The documentation she prepared was solid. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the final work product was competent, there were noticeable delays in email responses, sometimes stretching several business days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. Updates were not proactive; I often had to follow up for status checks. For a matter involving significant financial commitment, I expected a higher level of client communication. Her recognized prowess in alternative dispute resolution was evident in her strategic advice, but the day-to-day client service felt merely adequate. She is undoubtedly knowledgeable in franchise law, but the overall experience didn't fully meet my expectations for a seamless partnership.
