Competent on regulatory matters, but communication could improve

I engaged Jessica Garcia Keenum at Alston & Bird for assistance with a regulatory compliance review for our fintech startup's new payment processing feature. Her background in financial services regulation was evident, and she provided solid, pragmatic advice on navigating the state and federal requirements. Her recognition in this specific area is well-deserved, as her analysis of the potential regulatory hurdles was thorough. The work product was technically sound and helped us avoid several pitfalls. However, the experience was somewhat mixed on the service side. There were periods where responses to follow-up emails took longer than expected, which created some anxiety during our tight development timeline. While her ultimate guidance was valuable, the process felt less collaborative than I had hoped; at times, it was more of a one-way delivery of information rather than a dialogue. For straightforward regulatory analysis, she is certainly capable, but for clients who prioritize frequent touchpoints and proactive updates, expectations should be managed. She is a knowledgeable attorney in her field, but the overall client service experience was just adequate for our needs.
