Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I hired Jesse Schiel at Kobayashi Sugita & Goda to handle a complex contract dispute for my small business. With his 22 years of experience and recognition in Commercial Litigation and Corporate Law, I was confident in his technical expertise, which was evident. His analysis of our partnership agreement was thorough, and his background in these practice areas from the University of Hawaii law school clearly informed his strategy. The matter was resolved adequately. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While Jesse is undoubtedly a skilled attorney, I sometimes felt out of the loop. Responses to emails could take several days, and explanations of legal procedures, while accurate, were occasionally delivered in a way that assumed a level of familiarity I didn't have. For straightforward, high-stakes corporate or banking matters, his recognized skill set is a definite asset. For clients who prioritize frequent, proactive updates and very clear, layperson-friendly communication throughout the process, expectations may need to be managed. He did the job competently, but the client experience aspect felt just adequate.
