Competent on employment law, but communication could improve

I engaged Jennifer Colvin at Ogletree Deakins to advise on a complex non-compete agreement for a departing senior manager. Her knowledge of employment law, particularly on the management side, was evident. She correctly identified the key enforceability issues under Illinois law, and her background being recognized by Best Lawyers in Employment Law - Management gave me confidence in her technical analysis. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While her written memos were thorough, there were periods of several days where I had to follow up for updates, and responses sometimes lacked a clear explanation of next steps or timelines. For a straightforward legal review, her three years of post-2018 experience and DePaul University J.D. provided a solid foundation. Yet, for ongoing matters requiring more proactive guidance, the communication rhythm didn't fully meet my expectations. She resolved the immediate contractual question adequately, but the process felt less collaborative than I had hoped, which is why my rating reflects capable legal work with room for improvement on client service dynamics.
