Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I hired Jenna Mooney at Davis Wright Tremaine to advise my small business on a complex employee termination that carried potential litigation risk. Her background in Employment Law - Management was immediately apparent, and her 11 years of experience provided solid footing. She correctly identified the legal pitfalls and helped us navigate the process to a resolution without a lawsuit, which was our primary goal. Her recognition as a 'Lawyer of the Year' in labor and employment litigation is clearly earned in terms of pure legal knowledge. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While her advice was sound, I often experienced longer-than-expected wait times for email responses, which added stress during time-sensitive phases. Our consultations were efficient but sometimes felt rushed, leaving me with unanswered follow-up questions that required another round of communication. For the premium rate, I expected a more proactive communication style and a slightly more accessible feel. She is undoubtedly a skilled attorney in Portland's legal community, as her Best Lawyers recognition confirms, and she achieved the desired legal outcome. The representation was adequate, but the client service aspect didn't quite match the caliber of her legal expertise.
