Bio

Jeff Brenner is a trial lawyer who represents clients in complex business disputes in federal and state courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, arbitrations, mediations and before regulatory agencies. Jeff concentrates his practice on construction and real estate disputes, and he leads the firm’s Real Estate Litigation team and Construction group. What do you focus on? I help people and businesses that have disputes requiring litigation. I focus on construction and complex real estate, commercial and land use litigation. I appear regularly in state courts, federal courts, regulatory agencies and municipal bodies in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I have developed strong relationships with judges, arbitrators and mediators and understand their particular nuances to achieve my client’s business objectives.Recently, I obtained summary judgment decisions in Rhode Island federal court in a contract dispute between a national pharmacy chain and one of its former suppliers and a national commercial printing company in a contract dispute with a former executive. Similarly, I achieved a summary judgment decision in Massachusetts federal court in a lease dispute between the largest bakery in North America and a former landlord for a distribution center. It is important that I understand my client’s business and their objectives, which enables me to become a trusted advisor and knowledgeable advocate for them. I am currently working with clients in the construction, health care, franchise, hospitality, energy and manufacturing industries. Many of my litigation clients have hired me following the conclusion of a lawsuit to act as their outside general counsel. I manage their litigation and non-litigation needs drawing upon the firm’s breadth of resources and experience.I am a frequent speaker and writer concerning litigation and construction-related issues. I am the author of the Rhode Island chapters in the following national publications: Aspen Publishing’s State-by-State Guide to Construction Contracts and Claims (since 2008); the Commercial Financial Association’s Compendium of Significant Laws, Statutes, and Legal Issues (since 2000); Media Law Resource Center’s 50-State Survey: Media Privacy & Related Law (since 2015); and the American Bar Association’s Property Tax Deskbook (since 2008). Indispensable Counsel for Complex Real Estate Litigation

Our company faced a high-stakes, multi-party dispute involving a major commercial development project that was stalled by conflicting zoning interpretations and neighbor opposition. The situation was legally dense and threatened significant financial loss. Engaging Jeff Brenner was the decisive factor in achieving a favorable resolution. His deep, practical knowledge of Rhode Island land use law and his tenacious yet strategic approach in litigation were immediately apparent. Jeff meticulously deconstructed the opposing arguments and guided us through a simultaneous mediation while preparing for a potential trial. His recognition as a Lawyer of the Year in related fields is well-earned and was reflected in the respect he commanded from all parties, including regulators. The result was a negotiated settlement that preserved our project's core value without the cost and delay of a protracted court battle. Jeff’s blend of sharp intellect, clear communication, and unwavering dedication makes him an exceptional advocate for any complex business dispute.
