Competent on patent filing, but communication could improve

I engaged Jeanne Kelley at McGrath North to assist with a utility patent application for a mechanical component my small business developed. Her technical understanding, honed from her recognized work in Intellectual Property and Patent Law, was evident. She was thorough in dissecting the prior art and drafting the claims, which gave me confidence. Her education at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln College of Law and her recognition by Best Lawyers are certainly merited in terms of legal knowledge. However, the experience was mixed on the service side. There were periods of several days where I received no updates on the filing status, requiring me to follow up. While the final work product was solid, the process felt somewhat transactional. For straightforward IP matters, Jeanne is a capable attorney in the Omaha area, but managing client expectations and maintaining proactive communication could elevate the service. The outcome was satisfactory, but the journey there had some frustrating pauses.
