Competent on the corporate deal, but communication was a challenge

We engaged Jean-Christophe Imbeau of BCF to handle the acquisition of a small competitor here in Portland. His credentials are impressive, and his recognition in Mergers and Acquisitions Law by Best Lawyers gave us confidence. The legal work on the transaction itself was thorough; the due diligence was meticulous and the final agreements were solid. However, the experience was not seamless. Given his practice is based in Montréal, there were often significant delays in receiving email responses, sometimes stretching to several business days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. While his expertise in Corporate Law is evident, managing expectations around availability and communication for a cross-border client could be improved. For straightforward, non-urgent corporate matters, his competence is clear, but for clients who prioritize frequent updates and quick turnarounds, the logistical aspects may fall short of expectations.
