Competent on the deal, but communication could improve

I engaged James Long and his firm to assist with the acquisition of a small manufacturing business in the Houston area. His background in Mergers and Acquisitions Law from Tulane was evident, and his recognition in that field gave me initial confidence. The legal work on the transaction documents was thorough, and he identified several key liabilities in the due diligence phase that were crucial. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While James is clearly knowledgeable, especially given his nine years of experience, there were periods where communication lagged. Responses to emails sometimes took several days, and it was occasionally difficult to get a clear timeline for next steps. For a straightforward deal, his firm gets the job done competently, but you need to be proactive in managing the communication flow. The final outcome was satisfactory, but the process felt more reactive than I had hoped for a matter of this importance.
