Competent on the finance law, but communication could improve

I engaged James Padwick to assist my small business with a revolving line of credit secured by our accounts receivable. His background in asset-based lending and the recognition he's received in banking and finance law were the primary reasons for my choice. In handling the documentation and lender negotiations, his technical knowledge was evident and the final agreement was solid. However, my experience was mixed. While he clearly understood the complexities of the transaction, there were several instances where responses to my emails took longer than I expected, sometimes stretching to three or four business days, which created some anxiety during time-sensitive phases. I also felt that some of the process and potential delays could have been outlined more clearly at the outset. For straightforward finance matters, he is a capable attorney who knows his field, as his track record suggests. For clients who prioritize constant updates and very proactive communication, setting clear expectations on response times from the beginning would be advisable. He completed the work competently, but the overall client service experience felt just adequate.
