Competent appellate work, but communication could improve

I hired Jacqueline Meese-Martinez at Hahn Loeser & Parks to handle an appeal of a commercial contract dispute. Her background in appellate practice and the recognition she's received in that area, including the 'Ones to Watch' designation, gave me confidence in her technical ability. She clearly understood the nuances of Ohio appellate procedure and drafted a well-reasoned brief. The outcome was ultimately favorable, which is the most important thing. However, the experience had some shortcomings. There were periods where communication was slower than I expected; sometimes a week or more would pass without an update unless I initiated contact. While her analysis was sound, the explanations of certain procedural steps or potential risks were sometimes delivered in a very academic manner, making it a bit difficult to fully grasp the practical implications without follow-up questions. For a straightforward appeal, she is a capable attorney who knows the law, as her Best Lawyers® recognition suggests. My expectations for proactive client management and clearer, more consistent communication were just not fully met, which is why I'm giving a middle-of-the-road rating. She got the job done competently, but the process felt more transactional than collaborative.
