Competent handling of a complex real estate contract dispute
I engaged Mr. Spong at Robinson Gray Stepp & Laffitte to assist with a complicated commercial real estate contract dispute that arose from a property acquisition in the Charleston area. His recognized expertise in real estate law was immediately apparent. He demonstrated a thorough understanding of the contractual nuances and state-specific regulations, which was reassuring given his 12 years of practice in South Carolina. The legal strategy he developed was sound, and the outcome for my business was ultimately positive. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While his knowledge of creditor rights and insolvency principles, given his other recognitions, was occasionally referenced, communication could be inconsistent. There were periods where responses to emails took several days, and updates often felt like they were on his schedule rather than collaborative. For straightforward legal matters where deep expertise is the primary need, Mr. Spong is certainly capable. Just be prepared to manage expectations regarding client communication and the pace of the process. He is a knowledgeable attorney who got the job done, but the client service aspect felt merely adequate.
