I engaged Howard Morry of Morrys to assist with a complex estate matter that involved a family trust and some tax implications. Howard’s background in trusts and estates, and his recognition in that area, were the primary reasons I chose his firm. His analysis of the trust documents was thorough, and he clearly understood the economic and statistical aspects of the assets involved, which was reassuring. The work product itself was solid and met the professional standard you would expect. However, my experience was mixed. While Howard is undoubtedly knowledgeable, I found communication to be somewhat inconsistent. There were periods where responses to emails took longer than anticipated, and updates on file progress weren't always proactive. At times, it felt like I had to follow up to get clarity on next steps. For straightforward legal advice, he is certainly competent, and his firm’s reputation in Winnipeg is well-established. My expectations for a more collaborative and communicative client-attorney relationship, especially given the sensitive nature of estate planning, weren't fully met. The outcome was satisfactory from a legal standpoint, but the process itself felt more transactional than I had hoped.
