Competent real estate attorney, but communication could improve

I engaged Holly Bannerman at Moore & Van Allen to assist with a commercial property acquisition in the Charlotte area. Her expertise in commercial real estate law was evident; she is clearly knowledgeable, and her background representing developers and owners came through in her thorough review of the purchase agreement and title work. Her recognition in Best Lawyers for Real Estate Law is well-deserved from a technical standpoint. However, my experience was mixed. While the legal work was solid, there were often significant delays in receiving responses to emails, sometimes stretching to several business days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. Setting expectations around communication timelines at the outset would have been helpful. For straightforward, non-urgent matters, her 11 years of experience and UNC Chapel Hill education make her a capable choice. For our transaction, which had some complex zoning contingencies, I felt the strategic guidance was adequate but not exceptional. She completed the work accurately, but the process felt more transactional than collaborative.
