Competent on the transaction, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged Harris Watkins to assist my small business with a refinancing package for our line of credit. His background in representing financial institutions was evident; he understood the bank's perspective and the nuances of the loan documentation from Moore & Van Allen's standard forms. His knowledge of secured lending, for which he's recognized, helped identify a couple of potential pitfalls in the collateral agreement. The work product was solid and the transaction closed successfully. However, my experience was mixed on the service side. There were periods where responses to emails took several days, and I sometimes had to follow up more than once for status updates. For a straightforward refinancing, the process felt slower than anticipated, and I wasn't always clear on the next steps or timeline. Mr. Watkins is clearly a knowledgeable attorney in banking and finance law, and he got the job done. My rating reflects competent legal work that met our basic needs, but the client service and proactive communication didn't quite match the expertise demonstrated in the documents themselves. For a more complex deal, his deep dive into the specifics would be valuable, but for this matter, the experience was just adequate.
