Competent in family law, but communication could improve

I hired Haley Burnside to assist with a complex child custody modification. As a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center and someone recognized in family law, her foundational knowledge of Texas statutes was evident. She was able to navigate the procedural requirements efficiently, and the final outcome for my case was fundamentally sound. However, my experience was mixed. While she was dedicated to the legal work, there were noticeable gaps in proactive communication. Updates often felt reactive, coming only after I reached out, and responses to emails sometimes took several business days. This created periods of uncertainty during an already stressful process. Her approach felt more transactional than collaborative; I sometimes felt like just another case file rather than a client with specific concerns. For straightforward legal matters, her over five years of experience since her 2016 graduation is certainly an asset, and she knows the courtroom. Yet, managing client expectations and maintaining a consistent dialogue seem to be areas for growth. The legal result was acceptable, but the journey there lacked the supportive, communicative partnership I was hoping for from a family law attorney.
