A solid attorney with deep experience, but communication can lag

I hired Sam Mabry to represent my small manufacturing company in a product liability dispute. There's no question he knows this area of law inside and out. His 22 years of experience and the professional recognition he's received, like the Lawyer of the Year award, were evident in his strategic approach to our case. He understood the nuances of South Carolina law and provided knowledgeable counsel that ultimately led to a favorable settlement. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While his legal analysis was sharp, his communication was inconsistent. There were times I had to follow up multiple times for updates, and responses to emails could take several days. The firm's billing structure also felt opaque at times. For a complex, high-stakes matter, his expertise is undeniable and he gets the job done. But for a client who values regular touchpoints and clear, proactive communication, the experience can feel somewhat transactional. He is a competent and highly regarded attorney, but managing client expectations outside the pure legal work could be improved.
