Competent but communication could be more consistent

I retained Grant Davis and his firm after my mother suffered complications from a defective medical device. Given his recognition in product liability and medical malpractice, including his Lawyer of the Year awards, I felt confident in his expertise. That confidence was largely justified regarding the legal strategy. His 38 years of experience were evident in his grasp of the complex medical and regulatory issues. However, the practical experience of working with his office was mixed. While the senior associates were sharp, communication from Mr. Davis himself was sometimes sporadic. Updates often came from junior staff, and responses to direct emails could take a week or more. For a case that was emotionally taxing, this lack of consistent, direct contact from the lead attorney was frustrating. The legal work on our mass tort claim was handled professionally, and we achieved a settlement. Yet, the process felt more transactional than I had hoped, given the firm's prestigious reputation. You are getting a capable lawyer with a proven track record, but manage your expectations regarding personal accessibility.
