I engaged George Akers at Nelson Mullins to assist with the acquisition of a small tech startup my company was pursuing. His technical knowledge in the M&A space, particularly for venture-backed companies, was evident. He was thorough with the due diligence process and his background, recognized by Best Lawyers in both M&A and Venture Capital Law, gave us confidence in the structural aspects of the deal. The final agreements were solid. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While George is undoubtedly skilled, there were periods where communication lagged. Responses to emails sometimes took a couple of days, and updates weren't as proactive as I would have preferred from a lead attorney on a time-sensitive transaction. At times, it felt like we had to follow up to stay in the loop. For straightforward legal work, he is certainly capable, and his decade of experience from UVA Law shows. But for clients who prioritize frequent touchpoints and clear timelines, managing those expectations from the outset would be beneficial. The work product was good, but the client service felt just adequate.
