Competent in mediation, but communication could be clearer

I engaged Gary S. Joseph at MacDonald & Partners to assist with a complex post-separation parenting plan. His recognition in Family Law Mediation was a key factor in my decision, and in that specific arena, his skill was evident. He facilitated difficult conversations with my ex-partner effectively, helping us find a workable compromise on holiday schedules. However, for a 3-star review, I have to note that the overall experience felt somewhat transactional. While his legal competence from his four years of practice was solid, there were periods of delayed email responses that added to my stress. The process also moved at a slower pace than I had hoped, which I understand is sometimes unavoidable, but clearer timelines upfront would have helped manage expectations. He is undoubtedly knowledgeable, especially given his recognition by Best Lawyers, but the client service aspect felt just adequate for the firm's stature. For straightforward mediation guidance, he is capable, but be prepared to follow up proactively.
