Competent on energy matters, but communication could improve

I engaged Gabriel Ruiz Rocha at Holland & Knight for assistance with a cross-border energy contract review involving assets in Texas and Mexico. His recognition in Energy Law by Best Lawyers was a primary factor in our selection, and his 12 years of experience, particularly with the Mexican market from his San Pedro Garza García practice, was evident. He provided a thorough and technically sound analysis of the regulatory implications, which was precisely the deep expertise we needed. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While the final work product was solid, there were significant delays in receiving drafts, and our team often had to follow up multiple times for status updates. Communication felt reactive rather than proactive. For straightforward, complex legal analysis, Gabriel is certainly capable, and his firm's resources are impressive. But for matters where ongoing client communication and strict timeline adherence are critical, the process felt more cumbersome than expected. He is undoubtedly knowledgeable, but the overall service delivery was just adequate for our needs.
