Competent on regulatory compliance, but communication could improve

I engaged Fletcher Brown of Phelps Dunbar to assist my small medical practice in San Antonio with a compliance review related to a new state administrative regulation. His background in both health care and administrative law, along with his recognition by Best Lawyers in those fields, gave me confidence in his technical ability. Over the course of about three months, he thoroughly analyzed the new rules and provided a detailed memo on our obligations, particularly around patient data handling, which touched on his privacy law expertise. The work product itself was solid and demonstrated his 12 years of experience. However, the process felt somewhat impersonal. Response times to emails were occasionally slower than I'd hoped, sometimes stretching to several business days, which created anxiety during tight deadlines. While he was always professional in our meetings, I sometimes felt I had to initiate follow-ups to get status updates. For straightforward regulatory guidance, he is certainly knowledgeable and gets the job done. For clients who prioritize constant communication and a more hands-on, advisory relationship, you may find the experience merely adequate, as I did. He resolved our immediate issue competently, but the overall client service experience didn't quite match the level of his legal accolades.
