Competent on environmental compliance, but communication could improve

I engaged Emily Chan of Norton Rose Fulbright to assist my manufacturing company with a complex compliance review related to new state-level environmental regulations in Michigan. Ms. Chan's recognized expertise in Environmental Law was evident; her analysis of our operational permits and potential liabilities was thorough and strategically sound. She leveraged her extensive background in this field to outline a clear, phased approach for bringing our facilities into compliance, which was exactly the high-level guidance we sought. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While the final work product was solid, there were several instances where responses to time-sensitive emails took longer than promised, leaving our internal team in a holding pattern. Additionally, some of the billing summaries lacked the granular detail we expected for a firm of this caliber. For straightforward, complex environmental matters, her competence is not in question—she knows this area inside out, as her 2022 recognition confirms. Yet, for the premium rate, we anticipated a more responsive and consistently transparent client service experience alongside the legal expertise.
