Competent appellate work, but communication could improve

I hired Emily Fitzgerald at Alston & Bird to handle a commercial contract appeal after an unfavorable trial court ruling. Her background from UT Law and her recognition in appellate practice were clear assets; she drafted a very strong and persuasive brief. The legal work product itself was solid and demonstrated her four years of focused experience in commercial litigation. However, the overall experience was just satisfactory. There were periods where communication was slower than expected, making it difficult to get status updates without multiple follow-ups. While she is clearly knowledgeable and achieved an acceptable outcome for my case, the client service aspect felt somewhat transactional. I would describe her as a capable attorney who gets the job done, but the process lacked the proactive engagement I had hoped for given the firm's reputation.
