Competent but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Doug Burton at Wilmer Hale to assist with the acquisition of a mixed-use commercial property in Boston's Seaport District. His decade of experience and recognition in real estate law were evident in the thoroughness of the due diligence and contract review. He clearly knows the Boston market and the intricacies of Massachusetts property law, having graduated from Cornell Law in the mid-90s. The final documents were impeccable. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While Doug was knowledgeable, there were periods where communication lagged significantly. Responses to emails sometimes took several days, and it was occasionally difficult to get a clear timeline for next steps. For straightforward matters, his competence is not in question, and the firm's reputation is sterling. Yet, for clients who prioritize consistent, proactive updates, the service felt merely adequate. He successfully closed the deal, but the process required more follow-up on my end than I anticipated.
